- What is it?
- A soft gel of hyaluronic acid, a substance your skin already holds, injected to restore volume or shape an area.
- How many sessions?
- Often one visit. The doctor may suggest building up in stages, with a touch-up after a few weeks.
- How long does it last?
- Usually 6 to 18 months, depending on the area and the gel. Lips tend to fade sooner than the chin or cheeks.
- Is it safe for Indian skin?
- Yes, in a doctor's hands. Fillers sit under the skin and do not depend on skin tone, though bruising and swelling should be planned for.
What is Dermal Fillers?
Dermal fillers are gels made of hyaluronic acid, a sugar-based molecule that holds water and is found naturally in the skin. Different products have different thicknesses: softer ones suit lips and fine areas, firmer ones suit the chin, jawline and cheeks.
They are used to replace lost volume, smooth deep folds and shape features such as the lips, chin and jawline. They do not tighten loose skin or remove wrinkles caused by muscle movement.
Hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase, which is one reason they are the usual choice for a doctor's first treatment plan.
Used for
What it can help with
- Visible the same day
You see a difference straight away, which settles over two weeks.
- No surgery
A short visit with little downtime.
- Reversible
Hyaluronic acid can be dissolved if you are not happy.
- Shaped to you
Small amounts, added in stages, for a natural look.
- Many areas
Lips, cheeks, under-eyes, chin, jawline and folds.
Areas we treat
- LipsShape, symmetry and hydration; the doctor avoids an overfilled look.
- Under-eyeFor hollows where the skin is thin; needs an experienced doctor and a suitable gel.
- CheeksRestores mid-face volume and can lift the look of folds nearby.
- ChinImproves projection and balance of the profile.
- JawlineAdds definition along the jaw.
- Smile linesSoftens the folds from nose to mouth, often by treating the cheek too.
- Nose (non-surgical)Small reshaping of the bridge or tip in selected people; higher risk, so the doctor judges suitability carefully.
How does it work?
- Assessment
The doctor studies your face in three dimensions to see where volume is lost or balance is lacking.
- Placement
The gel is placed in the right layer with a fine needle or a blunt, flexible tube called a cannula.
- Volume
The gel holds water, so the area looks fuller or better shaped straight away.
- Integration
Over the following two weeks it settles into the tissue, and swelling goes down.
- Breakdown
The body slowly breaks the gel down over many months, and the effect fades.
What happens during a session?
- Consultation
The doctor discusses your goals, checks your history and agrees a plan. Photographs are taken.
- Numbing
A numbing cream is applied. Some fillers already contain a numbing agent.
- Injection
The filler is placed in small amounts with a needle or cannula, checking the shape as the doctor goes.
- Shaping
The area is gently moulded, and the doctor asks you to look in a mirror to confirm balance.
- Aftercare
Ice is applied and you get written instructions. A review is arranged for a few weeks later.
Who is a good candidate?
- Under-eye hollows and dark shadows from a tear-trough dip
- Flat or tired cheeks and mid-face volume loss
- Thin or uneven lips that you want to shape or hydrate
- A small or receding chin, or a jawline that lacks definition
- Deep smile lines (nasolabial folds) and marionette lines
- A non-surgical change to the bridge of the nose, in suitable cases
Is dermal fillers safe for Indian skin?
Fillers sit below the skin, so they are not limited by skin colour, but the plan matters. Indian skin can bruise and show dark marks after a needle, and the face often needs support in the mid-face, under-eyes and chin rather than only the lips. A doctor plans for natural proportions, uses small amounts, and chooses a gel that suits the area and the thickness of your skin. Care is taken in under-eye hollows, where the skin is thin and a wrong gel can show as a bluish tint.
Who should delay or avoid it?
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding
- An active infection, cold sore or open wound on the area
- Cold sores around the mouth that are active (lip treatment waits until healed)
- A history of severe allergic reactions, or allergy to local anaesthetic
- Autoimmune disease that is active (discuss with the doctor)
- Blood thinners or a bleeding disorder (tell the doctor)
- Dental work or a facial procedure planned in the next two weeks
The doctor checks your medicines and health before any procedure and may advise waiting or a different treatment.

Side effects and risks
Common and short-lived
- Swelling for a few days, more in the lips and under-eyes
- Bruising at the needle points, which fades in a week or so
- Tenderness, redness or small lumps that settle or can be massaged
Uncommon
- Lumps or an uneven look that may need adjusting or dissolving
- Infection or a delayed lump weeks or months later
- Vascular occlusion, a rare but serious problem where filler blocks or presses on a blood vessel. Warning signs are severe pain, a pale, white or blue-grey patch, a dusky or mottled colour, or blisters. Call the clinic at once. Quick treatment with hyaluronidase is urgent, and delay can lead to skin damage or, very rarely, loss of vision
- A bluish tint under the thin skin of the eyes (the Tyndall effect)

Results: what to expect
You see a change straight away, though swelling can hide the final look for up to two weeks. The result is a softer, fuller or better-shaped area, not a new face. How long it lasts depends on the area, the gel and your metabolism. Many people return for a top-up as the gel breaks down. The doctor reviews at two to four weeks and adds more if needed.
Does it hurt?
Numbing cream and, in many fillers, a built-in numbing agent make it comfortable. Most people feel pressure and a brief sting, with lips and the area around the nose more sensitive than the cheeks. The chin and cheeks are usually easy.
Dermal Fillers cost in Chennai
The cost depends on your skin and your plan. What decides it:
- The area treated: lips, cheeks and jawline need different amounts.
- The amount of gel needed, usually counted in syringes or millilitres.
- The type of gel, which differs by firmness and by how long it lasts.
- Whether you need a touch-up or top-up later.

Dermal Fillers: questions
Can fillers be dissolved?
Yes. Hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase, usually within a day or two. This is also the emergency treatment if a blood vessel is blocked.
What is a vascular occlusion?
It is a rare complication where filler blocks or presses on a blood vessel and cuts off blood flow to the skin. It needs urgent care. Warning signs are severe pain, a pale or blue-grey patch, or blisters. Choosing a doctor, using safe techniques and having hyaluronidase available all lower the risk.
Why do I need a doctor and not a beautician?
Filler goes close to blood vessels and nerves. A doctor knows the anatomy, can manage complications and holds the dissolving enzyme.
Will I look overdone?
Not if the plan is small and staged. The doctor adds a little at a time and shows you in a mirror.
Can filler migrate?
Filler can shift if too much is used or in areas of constant movement. Correct placement, small amounts and aftercare lower this, and it can be dissolved.
Does under-eye filler work for dark circles?
It helps dark circles that come from a hollow or shadow under the eyes. It does not treat dark circles from pigment, which need other treatment. The doctor tells you which kind you have.
Is non-surgical nose filler safe?
It carries a higher risk than other areas because of blood vessels near the nose. It is done only in selected people, in small amounts, by an experienced doctor. Surgery suits some noses better.
Can I fly or exercise after?
Light activity is fine the next day. Avoid heavy exercise for 24 to 48 hours. Flying is fine if swelling is not a concern for you.
How soon can I repeat or top up?
Usually after the first review at two to four weeks, if needed. After that, many people top up every 6 to 12 months.
Can I have filler and anti-wrinkle injections together?
Yes. They treat different problems and are often planned in the same visit, though the doctor may stagger them.
Do I need a consultation before a treatment?
Yes. Every treatment starts with a consultation. The doctor examines you and advises a procedure only if it suits you; many can be done the same day.
