How many sessions?
Usually 4 to 6 for a light peel, two to three weeks apart. Deeper peels are fewer and spaced further apart.

The effect builds over the course and fades if the cause returns, such as sun, acne or hormones. Maintenance peels and home care keep it going.
Is it safe for Indian skin?
Yes, when the peel is chosen for darker skin, started mild and followed by strict sun care. The doctor avoids deep peels on most Indian skin.

What is Chemical Peel?

A chemical peel is a solution of one or more skin-safe acids that is painted on the face or body, left for a timed few minutes and then neutralised or washed off. It speeds up the shedding of dead surface cells and, in stronger peels, loosens the layer below.

Peels are grouped by depth. Light peels work on the outer layer and have little or no downtime. Medium peels reach deeper and cause visible flaking for several days. The doctor chooses the acid, its strength and the number of layers for your skin and your concern.

Used for

What it can help with

  • Fresher texture

Dead surface cells are shed, so skin feels smoother.

  • Clearer pores

Helps with blackheads and oily, congested skin.

  • More even tone

Works on tan and dark marks over a course.

  • Low downtime

Light peels let most people return to work the same day.

  • Chosen for you

The acid and strength are matched to your skin and concern.

Areas we treat

  • FaceThe most common area; the eye corners and nostrils are protected.
  • NeckSkin is thinner, so the doctor uses a gentler strength.
  • HandsFor tan and uneven tone on the backs of the hands.
  • Back and chestOften used for back acne and marks; larger area, longer visit.
  • Underarms and elbowsFor dark patches, with mild peels over several sessions.

How does it work?

  1. Application

The acid is applied in a thin layer and timed carefully. A mild tingle or warmth is normal.

  2. Loosening

The acid breaks the bonds holding dead cells together, and in oily skin it clears the pores.

  3. Shedding

Over the next few days the loosened layer flakes away, taking some surface pigment with it.

  4. Renewal

The skin makes fresh cells, and the deeper layer is nudged to make more collagen after stronger peels.

  5. Course

Strength is stepped up gradually across sessions, only as far as your skin tolerates.

What happens during a session?

  1. Assessment

The doctor checks your skin, medicines and recent treatments, and chooses the peel and strength.

  2. Cleansing

The skin is cleansed and degreased. The eyes, lips and nostril edges are protected.

  3. Peel

The peel is painted on and timed. You may feel tingling or warmth, and a fan or cool air eases it.

  4. Neutralising

The peel is neutralised or washed off, depending on the acid used.

  5. Soothing

A calming cream and sunscreen go on, and the doctor explains what to do over the next few days.

Who is a good candidate?

  • Active acne, blackheads and oily skin
  • Marks and dark spots left after acne
  • Tan, uneven tone and some forms of melasma, alongside medical treatment
  • Dull, rough or uneven texture
  • Shallow acne scars, as part of a larger plan
  • Skin that needs a reset before an event

Is chemical peel safe for Indian skin?

Darker skin reacts to irritation by making extra pigment, so a peel that is too strong or too hot can leave dark patches. The doctor therefore prefers light and superficial peels for Indian skin, starts at a low strength, does a test patch where advised, and may prime the skin with creams beforehand. Strict sun protection before and after is what keeps the result safe.

Who should delay or avoid it?

  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Isotretinoin (acne tablets) in the last six months
  • An active infection, cold sore or open wound on the area
  • A fresh tan or sunburn on the area
  • Waxing, threading or a laser session on the area in the past two weeks
  • A tendency to form keloids or thick scars
  • Eczema or a flare of dermatitis on the area

The doctor checks your medicines and health before any procedure and may advise waiting or a different treatment.

Results: what to expect

Skin often looks fresher and feels smoother after the first one or two light peels, and flaking settles within a few days. Marks, tone and acne improve over the course rather than in one visit. The result depends on the cause: sun, hormones and untreated acne can bring the problem back, which is why home care and sun protection are part of the plan. The doctor reviews your skin at each visit before deciding the next peel.

Does it hurt?

Most people feel a tingle, warmth or mild stinging for a minute or two while the peel is on. It settles as soon as the peel is neutralised. Medium-depth peels sting more, and the doctor tells you before you decide.

Chemical Peel cost in Chennai

The cost depends on your skin and your plan. What decides it:

  • The type of peel: light peels cost less than a planned combination peel.
  • The area treated: face, or face with neck, back or chest.
  • The number of sessions in your plan.
  • Any prescription priming or home-care products advised.

Chemical Peel: questions

Will my skin peel off visibly?

Most peels used for acne and tone cause light flaking for a few days, not sheets of skin. Medium peels flake more, and the doctor tells you before you choose one.

Can I get a peel during acne breakouts?

Yes, peels such as salicylic and mandelic are used for active acne. The doctor avoids the area if there are open or infected pimples.

Can a peel remove acne scars?

Light peels help shallow marks and texture. Deeper pitted scars usually need microneedling, subcision or a laser, sometimes together with peels.

Can a chemical peel treat melasma?

It can be one part of the treatment. Melasma is a long-term condition, so the doctor combines gentle peels with creams and strict sun care, and sets realistic expectations.

Can I wear make-up after a peel?

Mineral make-up can usually be worn after a day or two for light peels. After a medium peel, wait until the flaking has settled.

How often can I have a peel?

Light peels are spaced two to four weeks apart. Medium peels need many weeks. The doctor sets the gap from how your skin recovers.

Is a chemical peel better than a facial?

They do different jobs. A facial cleanses and hydrates; a peel works on acne, marks and tone. See the comparison on the medifacial and hydra facial pages.

Can men have chemical peels?

Yes. Peels suit acne, marks and tan in men too. The doctor adjusts for beard areas and shaving.

Can I have a peel before a wedding or event?

Yes, but plan it three to four weeks ahead. A light peel can be done sooner; a medium peel needs time to settle.

Can I exercise after a peel?

Avoid heavy sweating and swimming for a day or two, until redness and tightness settle.

Do I need a consultation before a treatment?

Yes. Every treatment starts with a consultation. The doctor examines you and advises a procedure only if it suits you; many can be done the same day.
