What is it?
Treatment for dark circles under the eyes, chosen after the doctor finds out whether the cause is pigment, thin skin showing blood vessels, or a hollow that casts a shadow.
How many sessions?
Depends on the cause: usually 3 to 6 peels for pigment, one filler session for a hollow, and 2 to 4 skin booster sessions for thin skin.
How long does it last?
Filler for a hollow often lasts many months. Pigment and thin-skin circles can return without home care, sleep and sun protection.
Is it safe for Indian skin?
Yes, with gentle options chosen for the thin under-eye skin and sun care. Strong peels and lasers are used with caution in this area.

What is Dark Circle Treatment?

Dark circles are not one problem. In Indian skin the most common cause is extra pigment in the skin under the eyes. Others include thin skin through which blood vessels show as a blue-purple tint, and a hollow beneath the eye (a tear trough) that casts a shadow even when the skin colour is normal.

Heredity, allergies and rubbing the eyes, poor sleep, iron deficiency and ageing all add to these. Because each cause needs a different treatment, the doctor examines you in good light before suggesting anything. Often a person has more than one cause at once.

Used for

What it can help with

  • Cause first

Treatment is chosen for why your circles are dark.

  • Several options

From gentle peels to filler, with home care throughout.

  • Low downtime

Most people go back to work the same day or the next.

  • Looks more rested

A softer shadow makes the eyes look less tired.

  • Honest advice

The doctor tells you when a circle will not change much.

Areas we treat

  • Under-eye pigmentTreated with gentle peels and creams over several weeks.
  • Tear trough hollowFilled with a soft filler by a doctor, with care near vessels.
  • Thin under-eye skinTreated with skin boosters or light microneedling.
  • Upper eyelid shadowsAssessed individually; not every shadow suits treatment.

How does it work?

  1. Find the cause

The doctor stretches the skin, looks from different angles and checks for pigment, veins and hollows.

  2. Pigment

Gentle under-eye peels and prescribed creams reduce the extra pigment over a course.

  3. Thin skin

Skin boosters or microneedling thicken and hydrate the skin so veins show less.

  4. Hollow

A soft filler placed in the tear trough fills the groove and removes the shadow.

  5. Habits

Sleep, allergy control, sun protection and not rubbing the eyes hold the result.

What happens during a session?

  1. Examination

The doctor examines the area in good light and asks about sleep, allergies and medicines.

  2. Plan

You agree a plan: a peel, a skin booster, a filler, home care, or a combination.

  3. Treatment

The chosen procedure is done with care around the eyes, with numbing cream where needed.

  4. Aftercare

A cold pack and sunscreen are applied, and you get instructions for the next days.

Who is a good candidate?

  • Pigmented dark circles, brown or grey in tone
  • Hollows or a groove under the eyes (tear trough)
  • Thin, crepey under-eye skin with a blue or purple tint
  • Dark circles linked to allergies or eye rubbing, with those treated too
  • People who want to understand the cause before choosing a treatment

Is under-eye dark circle treatment safe for Indian skin?

Pigment is the commonest cause of dark circles in Indian skin, and the skin under the eyes is thin and easily irritated. Strong peels and lasers can make it darker, so the doctor uses mild peels, starts at a low strength and checks the skin often. Filler in the tear trough is done only by a doctor who knows the local anatomy.

Who should delay or avoid it?

  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • An active infection, cold sore or open wound on the area
  • An eye infection or recent eye surgery
  • Active allergy flare around the eyes
  • Blood thinners or a bleeding disorder (tell the doctor)
  • Puffy under-eyes from fluid or fat that may need another assessment

The doctor checks your medicines and health before any procedure and may advise waiting or a different treatment.

Side effects and risks

Common and short-lived

  • Redness, mild swelling or dryness
  • Bruising after a filler or booster
  • Mild stinging after a peel

Uncommon

  • Lumps or a bluish tint after a filler (the Tyndall effect)

Results: what to expect

Results depend on the cause. Pigment improves slowly over weeks, thin-skin circles look healthier as skin hydration and thickness improve, and a filler for a hollow shows the change straight away, with swelling settling in a few days. Some circles are partly built into the shape of your face and improve less. The doctor tells you honestly how much to expect before you decide.

Does it hurt?

Under-eye skin is thin and sensitive. Peels cause a brief sting. Filler feels like pressure and a small pinch, and numbing cream or a local anaesthetic is used. Bruising can be tender for some days.

Dark Circle Treatment cost in Chennai

The cost depends on your skin and your plan. What decides it:

  • The cause and the treatment chosen: peel, booster, filler or a combination.
  • The amount of filler or booster used.
  • The number of sessions in your plan.
  • Any prescription cream or home-care products advised.

Dark Circle Treatment: questions

Why do I have dark circles even when I sleep well?

Often it is how you were born: extra pigment, a hollow or thin skin. Sleep affects how dark they look but is rarely the only cause.

Do eye creams work?

Some help mild pigment or dryness over weeks, and sunscreen protects against worsening. They do not fill a hollow or change the colour of veins.

Is tear trough filler safe?

In trained hands, yes, but it carries real risks near the eyes. The doctor uses a soft hyaluronic acid filler and tells you the risks first.

Can a laser treat dark circles?

In selected pigmented circles, a gentle laser can help, but the skin is thin and the risk of darker patches is higher. The doctor often prefers peels and creams first.

Can iron deficiency cause dark circles?

It can add to a pale, tired look. The doctor may suggest a blood test if you have other signs of anaemia.

Do allergies make dark circles worse?

Yes. Itching and rubbing darken the skin, and nasal allergies can swell the veins. Treating the allergy is part of the plan.

Will puffiness go away with this treatment?

Not always. Puffy under-eyes from fat or fluid are different and may need a separate assessment.

How long does a filler last under the eyes?

Often many months, and sometimes more than a year, but it varies. The doctor tells you when a top-up may be due.

Can I have this treatment if I wear contact lenses?

Yes, but remove them before the session and avoid them for a day if the area is swollen.

Will the dark circles stay without treatment?

Some, such as those from anatomy, stay unless treated. Others vary with sleep, allergies and sun. The doctor explains which type you have.

Do I need a consultation before a treatment?

Yes. Every treatment starts with a consultation. The doctor examines you and advises a procedure only if it suits you; many can be done the same day.
