Dry skin
Dry skin treatment at Chamak Clinic, Chennai
Repairing the skin barrier, with the cause checked first.
Dry skin feels tight, rough or itchy and can flake or crack. It happens when the skin's outer barrier loses oil and water faster than it can replace them.
What causes dry skin?
- Hot showers, harsh soaps and over-washing
- Air conditioning and dry weather
- Ageing, as the skin makes less oil
- Eczema and other skin conditions
- Thyroid trouble, diabetes or kidney disease
- Some medicines, including acne creams and tablets
Signs to look for
- Tight skin after washing
- Flaking, rough patches or fine cracks
- Itching, worse at night
- Ashy, dull look on the arms and legs
Most dry skin improves with the right routine. When it is severe, itchy or patchy, the doctor checks for eczema, thyroid trouble or a reaction to a product, which need their own treatment.
How the doctor treats it
- A barrier-repair routine: gentle cleanser, a moisturiser with ceramides, sunscreen.
- Treatment of eczema or another cause when one is found.
- Hydra facials and skin boosters for dehydrated facial skin.
- Blood tests where the history suggests a cause.
The doctor decides what is right for you after examining you. A prescription is written only when one is appropriate.
Your treatment journey
- Consultation
The doctor examines your skin or scalp, asks about your history and medicines, and orders tests only if they are needed.
- Preparation
Prescribed creams, sun care or a test spot first, so the skin is ready and the risk of irritation stays low.
- Treatment
In-clinic sessions, spaced over weeks, alongside a home routine that does most of the daily work.
- Aftercare
Review visits, home care and a maintenance plan, so the improvement lasts.

Dry Skin Treatment: questions
Is dry skin the same as eczema?
No, though eczema causes dry skin. Eczema is itchy, red and comes in flares, and needs prescribed treatment.
Should I drink more water for dry skin?
Drinking enough water helps overall health, but dry skin mostly needs a moisturiser and gentle washing.
Can oily-looking skin be dehydrated?
Yes. Skin can be oily and still lack water, often from harsh face washes. A gentle routine usually settles both.
Which moisturiser should I use?
One with ceramides, glycerin or urea for the body, and a lighter one for the face. The doctor suggests one for your skin.
Do I need a consultation before a treatment?
Yes. Every treatment starts with a consultation. The doctor examines you and advises a procedure only if it suits you; many can be done the same day.
How much does a treatment cost?
The consultation is ₹500. Treatment prices depend on the area, what is used and the number of sessions, so the doctor gives you the exact price after examining your skin — before anything is done.
Not sure where to start with dry skin?
A consultation comes first: Dr Rohini K examines you, explains the options that suit you, and tells you the plan and the price before anything is done.
