How long does it last?
Removed fat cells do not usually return. Weight gain and ageing can change the area again over time.
Is it a weight-loss treatment?

What is Double Chin Reduction?

A double chin, or submental fullness, is a pocket of fat under the chin. It can come from genes, weight, age, or loose skin, and some people have it even at a healthy weight. Your doctor first works out which of these is the cause.

Non-surgical options include cryolipolysis, which cools the fat with a small chin applicator; HIFU, which uses focused ultrasound to treat the fat and tighten skin; and radiofrequency, which tightens skin. They are chosen based on how much fat and how much loose skin you have.

Where there is a lot of fat, very loose skin or a weak chin, surgery such as liposuction or a neck lift may give a better result, and the doctor will say so.

What it can help with

  • No surgery

    No cuts or general anaesthetic.

  • A cleaner profile

A slimmer area under the chin and a clearer jawline.

  • Matched to you

Fat, loose skin and a weak chin are treated differently.

  • Little downtime

Most people go straight back to normal activity.

  • Honest advice

The doctor tells you if surgery would suit you better.

Areas we treat

  • Under the chinThe main area for cryolipolysis, HIFU and radiofrequency.
  • Jowls and lower cheeksHIFU and radiofrequency for skin tightening and definition.
  • JawlineA combination can improve definition; fillers may add contour.
  • NeckRadiofrequency or HIFU for mild looseness of skin.

How does it work?

  1. Assessment

The doctor tests whether the fullness is fat, loose skin or a receding chin by pinching and looking at your profile.

  2. Cryolipolysis

A small applicator cools the fat under the chin, which damages the fat cells; the body clears them over weeks.

  3. HIFU

Focused ultrasound warms a precise point beneath the skin, which can reduce fat and tighten tissue.

  4. Radiofrequency

Radio waves warm the skin and fat, tightening collagen and improving firmness.

  5. Response

Over the following two to three months the area becomes slimmer and the line under the chin looks better defined.

What happens during a session?

  1. Assessment

The doctor examines your chin, neck and profile, checks your thyroid and history, and recommends one or more options.

  2. Marking

The area is marked and photographs are taken.

  3. Treatment

Depending on the method, a cooling applicator, ultrasound handpiece or radiofrequency handpiece is used on the area.

  4. Finishing

For cryolipolysis, the area is massaged afterwards. For other methods, the skin is cooled and moisturised.

  5. Review

Photographs and measurements are repeated at about 8 to 12 weeks.

Who is a good candidate?

  • A pinchable pocket of fat under the chin
  • A soft jawline that you want to define
  • Mild skin looseness along the jaw and neck
  • People near a healthy weight with stable weight
  • Those who do not want surgery or downtime

Is face fat and double chin reduction safe for Indian skin?

These treatments act beneath the skin surface, so they are suitable for Indian skin. The planning points are a careful check of the type of fullness, since a short neck or receding chin can mimic a double chin, and gentle settings to avoid dark marks on the neck, which can be prone to darkening. The doctor keeps sun care going during treatment. Indian faces often have a fuller lower face and a soft jawline, so the plan aims at balance, not a sharp, narrow shape.

Who should delay or avoid it?

  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • An active infection, cold sore or open wound on the area
  • Cold-related conditions, for cryolipolysis (cold urticaria, cryoglobulinaemia)
  • A goitre or a thyroid or neck lump that has not been checked
  • Very loose neck skin or a large amount of fat (surgery may suit better)
  • A receding chin that really needs a filler or surgical correction
  • A pacemaker or metal implants in the area
  • A BMI well above the healthy range

The doctor checks your medicines and health before any procedure and may advise waiting or a different treatment.

Results: what to expect

A visible change usually appears gradually over two to three months, with a slimmer area under the chin and a clearer jawline. The result is a refinement, not a new face. How much changes depends on the amount of fat, the skin's elasticity and your bone structure. If more is needed, the doctor may suggest a second session or a different method.

Does it hurt?

Cooling brings a pulling and cold feeling for the first minutes, then numbness. HIFU can feel like hot pinpricks or small zaps along the jaw, and the doctor can lower the energy. Radiofrequency feels like warmth.

Double Chin Reduction cost in Chennai

The cost depends on your skin and your plan. What decides it:

  • The method chosen: cryolipolysis, HIFU or radiofrequency.
  • The number of sessions or applications.
  • The size of the area treated.
  • Whether you add a filler or another treatment for the jawline.

Double Chin Reduction: questions

Is a double chin always fat?

No. It can be fat, loose skin, a receding chin or a short neck. The doctor works out which before suggesting a treatment.

Does a double chin mean I am overweight?

No. Some people have a double chin even at a healthy weight because of genes or jaw shape.

Can exercises remove a double chin?

Face exercises do not reliably remove fat under the chin. Weight loss helps if you are overweight, but spot fat cannot be targeted by exercise.

Which method is right for me?

A pinchable pocket of fat suits cryolipolysis; mild fat with mild looseness may suit HIFU; mainly loose skin suits radiofrequency. The doctor decides after seeing you.

When is surgery a better option?

When there is a lot of fat, very loose neck skin, banding in the neck muscles or a weak chin. Liposuction or a neck lift may give a stronger result and the doctor will tell you honestly.

Can fillers help the jawline?

Yes. A filler can define a soft jawline or a small chin. It does not remove fat.

Can face fat in the cheeks be reduced?

Fullness of the lower face may respond to radiofrequency or HIFU if it is mild. Larger cheek fat is better assessed by the doctor.

Will the fat come back?

Treated fat cells do not usually return. If you gain weight, the remaining fat cells can grow.

Is the numbness normal?

Yes. Numbness or tingling for a few weeks is common after cooling. Call the clinic if it spreads or is severe.

Can I combine these treatments?

Yes. A common plan is fat reduction first, then skin tightening, and a filler for the jawline if needed. The doctor sequences them.

Do I need a consultation before a treatment?

Yes. Every treatment starts with a consultation. The doctor examines you and advises a procedure only if it suits you; many can be done the same day.
