What is it?
Fine dissolvable threads placed under the skin with a needle to lift mildly sagging areas and to prompt the skin to make new collagen.
How many sessions?
Usually one. The doctor may suggest a repeat after about a year.
How long does it last?
Usually 12 to 18 months. The threads dissolve in about six to nine months, but the collagen they trigger can last longer.
Is it safe for Indian skin?
Yes, since threads sit below the skin and do not rely on pigment. Entry points can mark, so the doctor plans them with care.

What is Thread Lift?

A thread lift uses sterile, dissolvable threads, most often made of polydioxanone (PDO), a material used in surgical stitches for many years. The threads are placed just under the skin through tiny entry points, using a fine needle or cannula, with local anaesthetic.

Some threads are smooth and some are barbed or cogged. They can lift the tissue and also act as a scaffold, because the body responds to the thread by making new collagen around it, so skin looks firmer over the next months.

A thread lift suits mild to moderate sagging. It is not a replacement for a surgical facelift in significant sagging.

Used for

What it can help with

  • Visible lift

A gentle lift for mild to moderate sagging.

  • No big surgery

Local anaesthetic and tiny entry points.

  • Collagen support

The threads encourage the skin to firm up over months.

  • Short visit

About an hour, with recovery at home.

  • Dissolvable

Threads break down in the body; nothing stays in the body long term.

Areas we treat

  • Cheeks and mid-faceTo support drooping cheeks and soften the folds beside the nose.
  • Jowls and jawlineTo lift the lower face and refine the jawline.
  • BrowsA gentle lift of a heavy or low brow.
  • NeckFor mild looseness; results are modest.
  • Smooth threads for skin qualityFine mono threads placed in a mesh to firm and improve texture.

How does it work?

  1. Marking

The doctor marks the lift lines while you sit upright, since gravity shows the sag.

  2. Placement

Threads are passed under the skin through tiny entry points after local anaesthetic.

  3. Lift

Barbed threads grip the tissue and hold it in a higher position, while smooth threads support the skin.

  4. Collagen

The body responds to the thread by laying down new collagen, which firms the skin.

  5. Dissolving

The thread dissolves in about six to nine months; the firming effect can last longer.

What happens during a session?

  1. Consultation

The doctor checks your skin, history and goals, and tells you honestly if threads suit you or if another option is better.

  2. Marking

The lift lines are drawn while you sit up, and photographs are taken.

  3. Local anaesthetic

The area is cleaned and numbed with injections of local anaesthetic.

  4. Threads

Threads are placed through tiny entry points and adjusted for position and symmetry.

  5. Finishing

Entry points are covered and ice is applied. You get detailed aftercare instructions.

Who is a good candidate?

  • Mild to moderate sagging of the cheeks and jowls
  • A drooping eyebrow or early brow heaviness
  • Early loose skin along the jawline or neck
  • People who want some lift without surgery or long downtime
  • Those in their thirties to fifties with reasonable skin quality

Is thread lift safe for Indian skin?

Threads are placed below the skin and do not heat pigment, so they are generally suitable for Indian skin. The things to plan for are the entry points, which can leave a tiny mark on skin that scars easily, and swelling or bruising. The doctor chooses points in natural creases where possible and asks about keloids before treatment. Indian faces often have fuller cheeks and strong bone structure, and the doctor plans the lift direction for your features.

Who should delay or avoid it?

  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • An active infection, cold sore or open wound on the area
  • Blood thinners or a bleeding disorder (tell the doctor)
  • Very heavy or very loose sagging skin (surgery suits better)
  • Very thin skin with little fat, where threads may show
  • A tendency to form keloids or thick scars
  • Active autoimmune disease or poor wound healing (discuss with the doctor)

The doctor checks your medicines and health before any procedure and may advise waiting or a different treatment.

Results: what to expect

You may see a mild lift straight away, but swelling can hide the final result for one to two weeks. Firming builds over two to three months as collagen forms. The change is a refined, lifted look and not a facelift. How long it lasts depends on your skin, age and lifestyle. The doctor reviews you at about two weeks and again later.

Does it hurt?

Local anaesthetic numbs the area, so you feel pressure and tugging but not sharp pain. After the numbing wears off, the face can feel tight and tender for a few days, usually eased by simple pain relief the doctor advises.

Thread Lift cost in Chennai

The cost depends on your skin and your plan. What decides it:

  • The number of threads needed, which depends on the area and the degree of sag.
  • The type of thread, barbed or smooth.
  • The areas treated: cheeks, jowls, brows or neck.
  • Any combined treatment such as fillers or skin boosters.

Thread Lift: questions

Is a thread lift the same as a facelift?

No. A thread lift gives a modest lift with little downtime. A surgical facelift gives a stronger, longer-lasting change for significant sagging.

What are the threads made of?

Most are made of polydioxanone (PDO), a dissolvable material used in medical stitches for many years.

Will the threads show?

Not usually. In very thin skin a thread can be felt or seen. The doctor chooses placement and thread type with this in mind.

Can I smile and talk normally?

Yes, though the face may feel tight for a week and you should avoid wide mouth opening.

What age suits threads?

Threads suit people with mild to moderate sagging, often between the thirties and fifties. Skin quality matters more than age.

Can threads be removed?

They dissolve on their own. If one causes a problem, the doctor can remove or cut it.

Can I combine threads with other treatments?

Yes. Fillers add volume, anti-wrinkle injections soften lines and HIFU tightens skin. The doctor sequences them.

When can I go back to work?

Many people return in a day or two. Swelling and bruising may show for up to a week, so plan accordingly.

Can I get a repeat thread lift?

Yes, after the earlier threads have dissolved, usually after about a year. The doctor judges when.

Do I need a consultation before a treatment?

Yes. Every treatment starts with a consultation. The doctor examines you and advises a procedure only if it suits you; many can be done the same day.
