Dandruff & itchy scalp

Online skin doctor for dandruff and an itchy scalp

Flakes on your shoulders, an itchy scalp, or dandruff that comes back the week you stop the shampoo. Send scalp photos and the doctor tells you whether it is dandruff or something that looks like it.

₹299 for a chat consult.

  • Dr. Rohini K replies within 30 minutes, day or night.
  • Prescription in the chat and on WhatsApp, when one is right
  • 48 hours of follow-up questions included

What to send the doctor

  1. A close photo of your scalp at the parting, in daylight, and one of your hairline.
  2. Photos of behind the ears, the eyebrows and the sides of the nose if they are flaky too.
  3. The shampoos and oils you use, and how often you wash your hair.
  4. Whether it began after a hair dye, a new product or a move to hard water.

What the doctor looks for

  • Dandruff and seborrhoeic dermatitis, the most common causes of flakes.
  • Scalp psoriasis: thick, silvery patches that need a different treatment.
  • A fungal scalp infection, especially in children, which needs tablets.
  • A reaction to hair dye or a product.

What the plan usually covers

  • The right medicated shampoo, how long to leave it on and how often to use it.
  • A plan to keep it away once it has cleared.
  • A prescription scalp lotion or treatment where a shampoo is not enough.
  • What to stop: heavy oils left on overnight, scratching, and some dyes.

The doctor decides what is right for you. A prescription is written only when one is appropriate.

When a chat is not enough

See a doctor in person today if you have:
  • Thick crusts with hair loss, pus or swollen glands in the neck, especially in a child.
  • A red, spreading rash beyond the scalp with fever.

Questions

Why does my dandruff keep coming back?
Dandruff is controlled, not cured. It returns when the medicated shampoo stops, so the plan includes a maintenance routine, usually once or twice a week.
Is hair oil good for dandruff?
Usually not. The yeast behind dandruff feeds on oil, so oil left on the scalp can make flakes worse. The doctor tells you what suits your scalp.
Can dandruff cause hair fall?
Scratching and an inflamed scalp can add to shedding. If hair fall is your main worry, mention it so the doctor looks at both.
Who will I be speaking to?
Dr. Rohini K (MBBS, IFAAM (Aesthetic Medicine), Fellowship in Cosmetic Dermatology), the skin and hair doctor on PingMeDoc™'s teleconsultation panel. Every skin and hair consult booked through Chamak goes to the skin doctor, day or night, with a reply usually within 30 minutes.
What does it cost?
₹299 for a chat consult. Audio or video from ₹499. The price is shown before you pay and covers the written plan and 48 hours of follow-up questions in the same chat.
Will I get a prescription?
Only if the doctor finds one appropriate. When issued, it is a digital prescription sent in the chat and on WhatsApp, valid at any pharmacy.
Where does the consult happen?
Booking, payment and the chat run on www.pingmedoc.com, our teleconsultation site. You are asked for a phone number and a one-time code at payment, and nothing before that. Chamak and PingMeDoc are the same company.
