Scabies
Online skin doctor for scabies and night-time itching
Itching that is worse at night, small bumps between the fingers, on the wrists, waist or groin, and others at home itching too. Send photos and the skin doctor confirms whether it is scabies and writes a plan for the whole family.
₹299 for a chat consult.
- Dr. Rohini K replies within 30 minutes, day or night.
- Prescription in the chat and on WhatsApp, when one is right
- 48 hours of follow-up questions included
What to send the doctor
- Close photos in daylight of the bumps between your fingers, on your wrists and on any other itchy area.
- Who else at home is itching, and their ages, including children.
- Every cream or lotion used so far, and whether it was applied to the whole body.
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding, and whether there is a baby at home.
What the doctor looks for
- Scabies and its look-alikes: eczema, insect bites, fungal infection and hives.
- Scratch marks that have become infected and need treatment of their own.
- Crusted scabies in an older or unwell person, which needs a different plan.
- Why an earlier treatment did not work: applied the wrong way, not repeated, or the family not treated.
What the plan usually covers
- A prescription lotion or cream, with exactly how to apply it and when to repeat it.
- Treatment for everyone at home on the same day, even those who are not itching.
- Washing clothes, bedding and towels in hot water, or sealing them in a bag for a few days.
- Something for the itch, which can last two to four weeks after the mites are gone.
The doctor decides what is right for you. A prescription is written only when one is appropriate.
When a chat is not enough
- Thick, crusted, scaly skin, especially in an older person or someone with low immunity.
- Scratched skin that is hot, swollen or oozing pus, or itching with a fever.
Questions
- Why does the itching continue after treatment?
- Itching often lasts two to four weeks after the mites are gone, because the skin is still reacting. New bumps after that, or others at home still itching, mean the treatment needs to be repeated or done differently.
- Does everyone at home need treatment?
- Yes, on the same day, even those who are not itching yet. Otherwise it passes back and forth in the family.
- Can a baby or a pregnant woman be treated?
- Yes, with treatments that are safe for them. Tell the doctor the ages of everyone at home, and if anyone is pregnant or breastfeeding.
- Who will I be speaking to?
- Dr. Rohini K (MBBS, IFAAM (Aesthetic Medicine), Fellowship in Cosmetic Dermatology), the skin and hair doctor on PingMeDoc™'s teleconsultation panel. Every skin and hair consult booked through Chamak goes to the skin doctor, day or night, with a reply usually within 30 minutes.
- What does it cost?
- ₹299 for a chat consult. Audio or video from ₹499. The price is shown before you pay and covers the written plan and 48 hours of follow-up questions in the same chat.
- Will I get a prescription?
- Only if the doctor finds one appropriate. When issued, it is a digital prescription sent in the chat and on WhatsApp, valid at any pharmacy.
- Where does the consult happen?
- Booking, payment and the chat run on www.pingmedoc.com, our teleconsultation site. You are asked for a phone number and a one-time code at payment, and nothing before that. Chamak and PingMeDoc are the same company.
