Hives & urticaria
Online skin doctor for hives, urticaria and skin allergy
Itchy, raised welts that appear suddenly, move around the body and fade within a day, sometimes coming back every day for weeks. Send photos and the skin doctor looks for the trigger and writes a plan to control it.
₹299 for a chat consult.
- Dr. Rohini K replies within 30 minutes, day or night.
- Prescription in the chat and on WhatsApp, when one is right
- 48 hours of follow-up questions included
What to send the doctor
- Photos of the welts while they are out, close and from further away. Take them when they appear, as they may fade before the consult.
- When it started, how long each welt lasts, and whether it leaves a mark.
- New foods, medicines (painkillers too), an infection or insect bites before it started.
- Swelling of the lips or eyes, and whether it comes with heat, pressure, cold or exercise.
What the doctor looks for
- Hives and their look-alikes: insect bites, eczema, scabies and drug rashes.
- Short-lived hives from a trigger, or chronic hives that keep returning for more than six weeks.
- Physical triggers such as pressure, scratching, heat, cold or sweat.
- Signs that point to a medicine reaction or an illness that needs tests.
What the plan usually covers
- An antihistamine plan, with the dose and how long to take it.
- What to avoid while it settles, such as painkillers like ibuprofen or aspirin when they are a trigger.
- Blood tests when hives have lasted more than six weeks or the history points to a cause.
- What to do if it flares again, and when to check back.
The doctor decides what is right for you. A prescription is written only when one is appropriate.
When a chat is not enough
- Swelling of the lips, tongue or throat, trouble breathing or swallowing, or feeling faint. Go to an emergency department now.
- Hives with fever or joint pain, or welts that last more than a day and leave bruises.
Questions
- What causes hives?
- Short-lived hives often follow an infection, a food, a medicine or an insect bite. Chronic hives, which last more than six weeks, often have no outside trigger and are controlled with daily treatment.
- Will hives go away?
- Most short-lived hives settle within days to a few weeks. Chronic hives usually settle over months, and treatment keeps them quiet in the meantime.
- Can I take an antihistamine from the medical shop?
- An antihistamine is a common first step. If the welts keep returning for more than a few days, or come with swelling of the lips or eyes, consult so the doctor can look for the cause and set the right dose.
- Who will I be speaking to?
- Dr. Rohini K (MBBS, IFAAM (Aesthetic Medicine), Fellowship in Cosmetic Dermatology), the skin and hair doctor on PingMeDoc™'s teleconsultation panel. Every skin and hair consult booked through Chamak goes to the skin doctor, day or night, with a reply usually within 30 minutes.
- What does it cost?
- ₹299 for a chat consult. Audio or video from ₹499. The price is shown before you pay and covers the written plan and 48 hours of follow-up questions in the same chat.
- Will I get a prescription?
- Only if the doctor finds one appropriate. When issued, it is a digital prescription sent in the chat and on WhatsApp, valid at any pharmacy.
- Where does the consult happen?
- Booking, payment and the chat run on www.pingmedoc.com, our teleconsultation site. You are asked for a phone number and a one-time code at payment, and nothing before that. Chamak and PingMeDoc are the same company.
