Head lice

Online skin doctor for head lice in children and adults

An itchy scalp, especially behind the ears and at the back of the neck, with tiny eggs stuck to the hair that do not brush off. Send photos and the skin doctor confirms lice and writes a treatment plan for the whole family.

₹299 for a chat consult.

  • Dr. Rohini K replies within 30 minutes, day or night.
  • Prescription in the chat and on WhatsApp, when one is right
  • 48 hours of follow-up questions included

What to send the doctor

  1. Close photos of the hair near the scalp, behind the ears and at the back of the neck.
  2. The age and weight of the child, and whether anyone treated is pregnant or breastfeeding.
  3. Who else at home itches, and every lice treatment you have already used.
  4. Any sores, pus or swollen glands in the neck.

What the doctor looks for

  • Lice and nits, or a look-alike such as dandruff flakes.
  • Infection in the scalp from scratching.
  • Why an earlier treatment failed: not repeated, not left on long enough, or picked up again.

What the plan usually covers

  • A lice lotion that suits the age, with how long to leave it on and when to repeat it.
  • Combing wet hair with conditioner and a fine-toothed lice comb.
  • Treating everyone at home who has lice on the same day.
  • Washing pillow covers, combs and towels in hot water. Cutting the hair is not needed.

The doctor decides what is right for you. A prescription is written only when one is appropriate.

When a chat is not enough

See a doctor in person today if you have:
  • Scalp sores with pus, fever or swollen glands in the neck.
  • A baby under six months with lice. Ask a doctor before using any lotion.

Questions

Is kerosene safe for head lice?
No. Kerosene, petrol and insecticides can burn the scalp, poison a child and catch fire. Use a lice lotion the doctor advises.
How do head lice spread?
Mostly by head-to-head contact, and less often through shared combs, towels and pillows. Lice do not jump or fly, and they are not a sign of poor hygiene.
Why do the lice keep coming back?
Usually because the second treatment was missed, the lotion was washed off too soon, or someone at home or school was not treated.
Who will I be speaking to?
Dr. Rohini K (MBBS, IFAAM (Aesthetic Medicine), Fellowship in Cosmetic Dermatology), the skin and hair doctor on PingMeDoc™'s teleconsultation panel. Every skin and hair consult booked through Chamak goes to the skin doctor, day or night, with a reply usually within 30 minutes.
What does it cost?
₹299 for a chat consult. Audio or video from ₹499. The price is shown before you pay and covers the written plan and 48 hours of follow-up questions in the same chat.
Will I get a prescription?
Only if the doctor finds one appropriate. When issued, it is a digital prescription sent in the chat and on WhatsApp, valid at any pharmacy.
Where does the consult happen?
Booking, payment and the chat run on www.pingmedoc.com, our teleconsultation site. You are asked for a phone number and a one-time code at payment, and nothing before that. Chamak and PingMeDoc are the same company.
