Dark neck & underarms

Online skin doctor for a dark neck, underarms and skin folds

Dark, thick, velvety skin on the back of the neck, the underarms or the groin that does not wash off. Send photos and the skin doctor tells you why it happens and what helps, starting with the blood tests that matter.

₹299 for a chat consult.

  • Dr. Rohini K replies within 30 minutes, day or night.
  • Prescription in the chat and on WhatsApp, when one is right
  • 48 hours of follow-up questions included

What to send the doctor

  1. Daylight photos of the neck, underarms and any other dark areas.
  2. Your weight and any recent change, and whether diabetes runs in your family.
  3. Irregular periods, acne or extra hair, and skin tags on the neck.
  4. Medicines you take, such as steroids or hormone tablets, and everything you have used on the skin.

What the doctor looks for

  • Acanthosis nigricans, the velvety darkening linked to insulin resistance, weight and PCOS.
  • Darkening from friction, tight clothing or shaving, or a reaction to a deodorant.
  • A fungal infection, which can also cause brown, scaly patches.
  • Sudden, widespread darkening in an older adult, which needs an in-person check.

What the plan usually covers

  • Blood tests for sugar and thyroid, and others when your history fits.
  • The changes that help most, such as weight loss and treating insulin resistance.
  • Creams that soften the thick skin and even the colour over time.
  • What to stop, such as scrubbing, lemon and bleach.

The doctor decides what is right for you. A prescription is written only when one is appropriate.

Questions

Is a dark neck a sign of diabetes?
It is often a sign of insulin resistance, which can come years before diabetes. A blood sugar test tells you where you stand.
Will the dark skin go away?
It fades slowly, over months, once the cause is treated. Creams help the texture and colour, but the cause matters more.
Can scrubbing remove a dark neck?
No. It is not dirt. Scrubbing irritates the skin and can make it darker.
Who will I be speaking to?
Dr. Rohini K (MBBS, IFAAM (Aesthetic Medicine), Fellowship in Cosmetic Dermatology), the skin and hair doctor on PingMeDoc™'s teleconsultation panel. Every skin and hair consult booked through Chamak goes to the skin doctor, day or night, with a reply usually within 30 minutes.
What does it cost?
₹299 for a chat consult. Audio or video from ₹499. The price is shown before you pay and covers the written plan and 48 hours of follow-up questions in the same chat.
Will I get a prescription?
Only if the doctor finds one appropriate. When issued, it is a digital prescription sent in the chat and on WhatsApp, valid at any pharmacy.
Where does the consult happen?
Booking, payment and the chat run on www.pingmedoc.com, our teleconsultation site. You are asked for a phone number and a one-time code at payment, and nothing before that. Chamak and PingMeDoc are the same company.
