- 48 hours of follow-up questions included
What to send the doctor
- Photos of the grey areas in daylight, and of your hairline and parting.
- Your age when it started, and when your parents started greying.
- Your diet (vegetarian, little milk or curd), smoking, hair fall, and any white patches on the skin.
- Thyroid problems, anaemia or vitamin B12 deficiency, and the hair dyes you use.
What the doctor looks for
- Greying that runs in the family, which is the most common cause and starts early.
- Low vitamin B12, low iron, thyroid problems or low vitamin D, which can be tested and treated.
- White hair growing in a white patch of skin, which points to vitiligo.
- Scalp irritation or allergy from hair dye.
What the plan usually covers
- Blood tests for vitamin B12, thyroid, iron and vitamin D when your history fits.
- Treatment for a deficiency if one is found.
- Safe ways to colour grey hair, including a patch test before every new dye.
- Honest expectations: greying that runs in the family rarely reverses.
The doctor decides what is right for you. A prescription is written only when one is appropriate.
When a chat is not enough
- Swelling of the face, eyes or scalp after using hair dye. See a doctor now, or go to a hospital if breathing is affected.
Questions
- Can grey hair turn black again?
- Greying that runs in the family usually does not reverse. When it comes from low vitamin B12 or a thyroid problem, treating it can stop the greying and sometimes darken a few hairs.
- Which deficiency causes grey hair?
- Low vitamin B12 is the best known. Low iron, thyroid problems and low vitamin D have also been linked. A blood test tells you whether you are low, rather than taking supplements blindly.
- Does plucking a grey hair make more grow?
- No. Plucking does not make more grey hair grow, but repeated plucking can damage the root and thin the hair.
- Who will I be speaking to?
- Dr. Rohini K (MBBS, IFAAM (Aesthetic Medicine), Fellowship in Cosmetic Dermatology), the skin and hair doctor on PingMeDoc™'s teleconsultation panel. Every skin and hair consult booked through Chamak goes to the skin doctor, day or night, with a reply usually within 30 minutes.
- What does it cost?
- ₹299 for a chat consult. Audio or video from ₹499. The price is shown before you pay and covers the written plan and 48 hours of follow-up questions in the same chat.
- Will I get a prescription?
- Only if the doctor finds one appropriate. When issued, it is a digital prescription sent in the chat and on WhatsApp, valid at any pharmacy.
- Where does the consult happen?
- Booking, payment and the chat run on www.pingmedoc.com, our teleconsultation site. You are asked for a phone number and a one-time code at payment, and nothing before that. Chamak and PingMeDoc are the same company.
